You are propably correct it is a cynical attempt to try and take money from vulnerable people so they can waste it elsewhere.
They claim they cannot afford to fund a system for people who they say want to or could return to work. I bet the money they pay in benefits is nowhere near the amount of money that has been pumped into the banks, and look how fast they managed to find it.
It is one of the problems we now face living in a corrupt capitalist country where greed and the pursuit of profits is the main motivation.

My brother was invited to a medical and asked what time the ambulance would arrive. After some umming and erring, eventually they said they'd send a taxi. They weren't amused when he said he needed to travel lying down. What on earth do they expect from someone with severe mobility problems? I suppose they thought that he'd suffer all the pain of a taxi journey and walk from the taxi to the tribunal room and then they'd be able to say he can walk all the time.

Hi, just wanted to say thankyou for the advice. I had the medical today, and yes the room was along a corridor. However I felt as if I was prepared for what to expect as I had read as much as I could from the site.
Thanks also to everyone who answered my post.
