DLA MEDICAL 7 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I have a feq questions which are not covered, I think, by the guides published on DLA Medicals.

Hope you dont think them silly questions, but I am a worrywart by nature.

Will the Atos Origin Doctor make assumptions about me because I am lucky enough to have a wide screen 30" tv. Not one of the lovely plasma or LCD sort, but one of the old big bulky ones. An ex boyfriend bought me it for xmas a couple of years back because I was struggling to see my old 18 in portable. I am wondering if I should try to get it moved until after the medical?

Also, I have taken up paper crafting as a means of stopping myself going insane, will they make assumptions about me when they spot my craft materials?

If only they would ask questions you would be able to explain reasons for things, but when they just assume without asking you have no idea what they are thinking.

The reason I asked this was because I had an assumption made about me at a previous IB medical, which I failed. The Dr. had written how my hair was neatly clipped up in an attractive hair slide. What the heck that had to do with my claim that I was unfit for work I have no idea. If she believed it indicated that I had no problems with reaching she could have asked and I could have told her how my daughter did my hair before leaving home!

Is it true that they wander around your house? Are they allowed to do so, can you refuse them permission to enter certain rooms?

Do I have to have the medical part (ie physical examination) in my bedroom or can I ask for it to take place in my sitting room with the curtains drawn instead?

Do they make assumptions because I have an old dog? I have COPD I would hate them to assume that the dog hairs are the cause of it and I should get rid of the dog.

Finally, if they wrote to my GP one month ago, why are they only now asking me to have a medical. Would it be because my GP's report didnt give them satisfactory evidence one way or the other and they need a further opinion to determine whether or not to remove the piddling LRC they awared me last time at appeal, or whether to award me any rate of Mobility?

The woman on the help line said they wrote to my GP to determine if I was fit to travel to a medical centre for the medical, but that is not what their letter to me at the time said, it said they had written to my GP for a report of my condition.

Sorry, see told you I was a worrywart, but honest to goodness this whole process has left me teetering on the brink of nervous collapse. I have been dreading that rotten brown envelope for weeks now and finally I dont get a brown one, but a white one telling me I am having to have a medical. They have now had my claim since Easter and still have not made up their minds, despite the fact that the current claim expires on 21st June.

Sorry rambling here now.

Oh lord, shoot me now and save them and me the bother.

I would err on the side of caution, as you know, Atos docs tend to put a spin on anything. Hobbies could indicate that you have got good motivation, etc. In relation to IB it is something that could be converted to work according to the DWP. The Atos doc was keen to find out if I had any hobbies, as this info would then be passed onto my IBPA, and noted on my records for future discussions in relation to work. I would presume that the doc would only have access to rooms that you have given him permission to use. I think another member will probably be able to confirm if this is correct.

I'm not sure if I mentioned IB50 but should read IB85: which is Medical Report Form that Atos doc completes.
