TOPIC: Tough Tory plan for young jobless

Tough Tory plan for young jobless 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hi all.

Quote from BBC report.
"The Conservatives are bringing forward tough new proposals on work schemes for jobless young people.
Anyone under 21 unemployed for three months would be sent to a specialist employer for an intensive programme of work-related activity." More.

Although this is not about sickness related benefits, Shadow Work and Pensions Secretary Chris Grayling is due to give more detail on Tory benefit reforms tomorrow (Tuesday 27/5).

Adam.

They've copied this idea from the yanks, they've got schemes that are aimed at the jobless to put people into un-paid work. It seems to be just one step away from work camps, which would fit into the work is good for you ideology.

Hi All!
I can't help thinking that they want to turn back the clock to the Eighteenth Century and bring back the Workhouse!
Cheers, Pen.

Their plans for getting people off IB were mooted back in January.

Tory Idea

I emailed Grayling to ask what had they decided to do about the possibility of the 200,000 appealing against being thrown off IB and perhaps winning. Needless to say his reply was " we haven't yet decided what to do regarding the appeals process"!!

Also I woinder if the tories have worked out how long it would take to re-test all 2.5million current IB claimants, somehow I don't think they have..typical tory rhetoric me thinks.

I think Grayling was clearly exhibiting the "luxury" of a politician not being in Government. If he ever gets into Government, which seems quite likely, he'll very quickly discover that the realities of the situations he may be dealing with will very much dictate what in practice can be "achieved". He ought perhaps to remember (although I've forgotten who originally said it) that "Politics is the art of the possible."

Kind regards

Mr B

Hi MrB!
'Politics is the art of the possible', is a line from 'Evita', a friend of mine played Colonel Peron in the revival at the Adelphi last year, LOL!!
Cheers, Pen.
