Education/OU and Incapacity Benifit 7 Months, 2 Weeks ago
hello. I did a part time OU course and got Disabled student allowance. I have finished the course. My IB form has come through, does the course affect my benefits? should I say on the form that I did a course , will they know? I cannot be bothered to explain how difficult it was , when they might think I can work if I can do that, which I wish was the case but it isn't and fear that saying I did that will render me able to work I do not want to say that I have done this for the hassle it might cause. Will they know?

I would suggest that if you have finished your OU course and are now intending claiming iB I doubt that one would affect the other. There is no reason why they should know what you have done in the past.....unless of course you tell them!!

Thanks Gareth. I was actually on IB when I did the course , its only cos its up for renewal and I had to fill in the form and wondered whether to mention it.

I'd like to do more courses as they give you a sense of purpose and its all very much at your own pace but fear that I'll be deemed well enough to work, which I wish I was but I am certainly not. I just don't want to be explaining all about it . My GP is 100% behind me and thinks its a good thing but I dare not mention it as fear they will think if I can do that I can do such and such and have to explain how wth all my problems I can do this and yet its all I can do.

It's up to you of course but as you've now finished the course I cannot see any point in telling them.
