Incapacity benefit 1 Month, 2 Weeks ago
Hi, I am currently trying to claim incapacity benefit, and wondered if anyone knows how it works? I am still on half pay from work, however when my ssp stopped in April i was unaware that i could claim anything until someone told me. I contacted my employer in july and got them to send me the ssp1 form and started my claim, filled in the ib50 and sent back dated sicknotes and med4. I have not yet heard anything about my claim. Then today i received my appointment for a medical. Is this normal and does it mean that i am entitled to incapacity benefit in the meantime or will i not get anything unless i pass/fail the medical examination? Any advice welcome. I phoned them last week and was told that my claim would be sorted within the week.

Hi Julie,

See this link on claiming Incapacity Benefit HERE

There are other links on the page which you can click on and these should answer your questions.

Regretfully, I'm not very well myself at the moment, otherwise I'd have addressed your queries in full.

Hope this is of some help.

Jim

Thanks Jim for taking the time to reply especially when you are having a bad time yourself. I was just a bit confused as the letter i received stated that if i did not attend the medical then any benefits would be stopped. This must be only for people who are already getting something. Just can`t understand why they want the med4 and things if i still have to be interogated, as if anyone would go though the humiliation of all this if they were well.

Thank again

Julie
