ESA Gets Off to an Even Worse Start! 1 Month, 4 Weeks ago
According to a headline on Rightsnet, the administration of the new Employment and Support Allowance has encountered yet another difficulty since its inception on 27 October 2008.

Not only have the DWP staff who are supposed to administer the allowance had no training, but it has now been revealed by the DWP, that ESA to be delivered by manual processes for the first nine months. They claim that a delay to new £295m computer system, will not reduce service levels to claimants. Does anybody believe them, because I certainly don't!

Yet another example of this Draconian allowance in action, with the cracks starting to appear already, only a fortnight after the introduction of ESA.

Hi Charlie,

The information is on Rightsnet:
http://www.rightsnet.org.uk/index.shtml

Unfortunately you need to be a subscribing member (or member of a subscribing organisation) to access it.

I could cut and paste it but am not sure about copyright issues etc.

Regards

Pete

I see the DWP a using spin to gloss over problems, using terms like bedding period, etc. Anyway, how sad to hear that the DWP are having problems, as their staff are already stressed trying to meet targets for getting claimant rates down.

Hi Pete,

Good to see you back. I'm just about to leave home, as I've managed to book a cottage until the end of the week, and not too far to drive.

Rightsnet get their information from the DWP press releases and from Central Office of Information, both in the public domain, so I can't see anyproblem with copyright.

I used to subscribe to their 'news service' when I was working, but IMO at £50 per annum it's a rip off, so I now just use Google Alerts and set up anything I want to be kept up to date with like ESA.

Anyone can set up their own alerts at http://www.google.com/alerts

Hope all went well with the British Legion et al.

Best wishes.

Jim

Hi Jim,

Hope you have a good time away.

Yes all went well re the Remembrance events etc but am now taking a few days to recover from the travelling etc as I feel totally drained and am having a bit of a flare up.

Re Rightsnet, fortunately I am a member of a subscribing organisation so don't have to pay personally. I don't think I would pay the £50 subscription on a personal basis though, albeit some of their toolkits are reasonably good.

Anyway, enjoy your few days break.

Pete
