DLA Home Medical 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
Hi fokes,
I had a visit from a G.P working for the DLA. He carried out an assessment on my condition and how i get round my home and such; which took place on the 12/09/08.
I rang the DLA for an update two or three times over the past two weeks and each time they said that the decision maker has sent some questions to their in house medical officer from the Medical done on the home visit.
a)
Do these people not trust those who they send out to carryout these assessments?;
b)
Is it normal practise to question what is written in these reports? (of which they sent me a copy);
c) Is it normal to take such a long time for a decision on these matters?
I was also sent to the local centre for an Incapacity benefit examination and that Doctor told me he would be requesting that i do not get re-called for at least another two years, but have been sent a letter saying it will be atleast three years before i am required to attend again.
I guess i'm just being paranoid about the length of time it as taken for a decision when i have so many professionals stating the obvious...
Thank you

Hi Andrew,

I don't thjink it is a matter of them not trusting what the visiting doctors (called EMP's) say, but they can ask them for clarity over a point in the EMP report if it will help the decision maker make a 'better' decision or if perhaps there is something missing in the report they would like to ask the EMP about.

With regard your medical for Incapacity Benefit, that is a different type of medical to the one carried out for DLA. In the IB medical they are purely looking at your ability to work (or not) whereas the medical for DLA looks at your care and mobility needs. One can still work and receive DLA hence the differing medicals.

Regards

Pete

Hi Andrew,

Sadly Pete had a heart attack yesterday and is in hospital, so he won't be posting until he recovers. See my thread HERE
