TOPIC: unsympathetic doctor

unsympathetic doctor 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
My first sick note has run out, and my usual doc is on holiday, but she told me to just ring up whenever I need a new one as she knows my situation and has recorded the severity of my depression on the screen. However tonight a doc I occasionally see rang me and told me she'll only issue me with a sick note for 2 weeks then I have to go back and see her, as my doc is on hols still then .
In the meantime I am caring for my Mum and get carers allowance and income support, and have today received a letter saving i'm also entitled to IB.If sick notes aren't issued, even though I am in no way fit for work, can I be forced to work, or does being a carer exclude me from this?
PS I am also confused where the IS/IB and CA all fits in, I know i'm not entitled to them all, and can't get a straight answer out of anyone at DWP

Hi,

Sorry but your message is quite hard to read. Hopefully I have got this right, but please tell me if not.

If you have received a letter saying you are entitled to Incapacity Benefit, then it usually says there is no need to submit further sick notes. Your IB would then normally be reviewed after a certain period.

You cannot claim Carers Allowance and Incapacity Benefit at the same time, as they are overlapping benefits, but you may be able to keep what is called an underlying right to Carers Allowance.

Perhaps getting some face to face advice from a Welfare Rights adviser maybe able to clarify the situation for you and explain in detail what you can and cannot claim.

Regards

Pete

Sorry Pete that my post was hard to read.I got a letter from IB and rang them today, and they said I have to carry on submitting sick notes.I'm ringing welfare rights tomoz for some clarity as am very confused.I do realise though that I can't get all 3 benefits at once
