Incapacity Medical 1 Month, 3 Weeks ago
I have just had a Medical for Incapacity Benefit. It lasted 10 minutes at most, the questions I was asked were mostly not relevant to me, so in not being asked the relevant questions how would I reach the required number of points?

If your medical was for physical problems then you need to score a minimum of 15 points or if it was for mental health problems then you need to score a minimum of 10 points.

Yes, I understand that but if enough relevant questions were not asked how can it be possible to receive the right decision, overall I should have scored enough points but not necessarily on the questions that were asked, I wasn't asked many at all, that is my concern

Hi Margaret

I'm sorry you found the medical skimped and irrelevant. The final decision on the number of points you've scored, and whether you've passed the test to remain on IB, will be taken by a DWP decision maker and not the doctor you saw. The DM will look at your completed IB50 form, and any other medical information submitted, as well as the report from the doctor who conducted your medical. I hope that the DM will get a more accurate veiw of your health problems by taking all of this information into account and not just the medical. If your health condition hasn't improved significantly since you were last assessed (if this isn't your first assessment) then you've a good chance of passing the test to remain on IB.

I hope the above helps but please post back if we can help any further.

Good luck for your assessment

Mr B

I filled in the IB50 form at around the end of July, was called in for a medical but was unable to attend which was accepted. Since then however my situation has changed for the worse and not having filled another IB50 in since ,this could also result in the wrong decision

Hi Margaret,

I can only advise that you wait and see. Normally a medical for IB last around 30-40 minutes, but perhaps the EMP had sufficient knowledge about your health problems to merit such a short medical. If you GP was asked to complete an IB113, that would be of great help.

Good luck, if you're claim isn't successful, just post again and we'll tell you how to make the best appeal possible.

Best wishes.

Jim
