Employment and support allowance replaces incapacity benefit from October 27th 2008. This online test takes you through the work capability assessment, the test used to decide whether you are eligible for employment and support allowance, and if so, whether you should be in the work-related activity group or the support group.
We’ve set out a series of 6 steps, though no-one will need to take more than 4, to help you to decide whether you might qualify for either group.
But please be aware that a decision maker using a report from an Atos Healthcare doctor may not reach the same conclusion that you do about your eligibility for employment and support allowance.
Hospitals and regular treatment
Just before we start the 6 steps, please note that hospital in-patients and people receiving certain treatments are counted as having limited capability for work.
Warning!
This test uses the Employment and Support Allowance Regulations 2008. But the 6 step process is entirely our own invention, to try to make it easier to assess yourself. Do not make any decisions about your future based on this test, always seek advice from an independent advice agency.
