Exemption from the limited capability for work-related activity assessment

  PDF    Print    Email

Employment and support allowance medical doctorStep 4 Are you exempt from the limited capability for work-related activity (support group) assessment?
If you are exempt from the work-related activity assessment then you automatically qualify for the support component.

You will be exempt if:

  • You are terminally ill and your death can reasonably be expected within 6 months.
  • You are receiving, or recovering from receiving, intravenous, intraperitoneal or intrathecal chemotherapy.
  • You are a pregnant woman and there is a serious risk of damage to your health or to the health of your unborn child if you do not refrain from work-related activity.

Yes, I am exempt.
If the decision maker agrees, you will be eligible for the higher paying support component instead of the lower paying work-related activity component. That’s the end of the test for you.

No, I'm not exempt
You are still eligible for ESA with a work-related activity component. Move on to Step 5 Do you satisfy any of the limited capability for work-related activity (support group) descriptors? to see if you qualify for the support component via that route.
