Hi All

This may be a little off topic . I am on ESA and my wife looks after me. And we get DLA. My Daughter who is 17 and is studying for her A levels has decided she wants a part time job We are just wondering if it will affect our benefits at all. Or would she have to pay out towards something housing poll tax or something along these lines.Im sorry to ask in here but am unsure where to find the answer and just ringing the DSS is a work of art alone and sometimes brings on my angina I get so upset with them and the silly things they ask. And just wondered if anyone else had come up against anything like it before? Many thanks

We're really not in a position to advise in detail on your question, there are too many factors we will be unaware of, so you really need to get face to face advice from your local CAB, or Google "welfare advice" and your town or county.

I can tell you that ESA is paid to a single person or a couple, so your daughter will not be included in your claim and therefore cannot effect it, with regard any other benefis you might be receiving, you need to speak to someone.

Hi O5,

Another thing that may be relevant, is whether your ESA is Income Related (Means Tested) or Contribution Based (Non Means Tested) Or if in receipt of both IR ESA and CB ESA (Means Tested)

The DLA is not relevant, as it is not classed as income for benefit purposes, nor is it "Means Tested".

This no: 0800 0882 200 will be able to advise you. This is an independent disability helpline no regarding welfare benefits, what you can claim and can't etc. etc. They have always been very good at ensuring you get your right entitlements etc. etc and telling you what you can have and can't. They should beable to help you with your Daughter wanting to work with the situation.

At 1 time it would have made no difference your Daughter working as i know that from my lads when they were at home however things have changed so much you need to check up as it may all have changed now
