M.E, incontinence and atos medical was created by PrstnKaren
Hi All
just been transfered from Incapacity benefit to WRAG following Atos medical.

Not sure if anyone can help but incontinent due to tired muscles and bladder emtying with no warning or being too tired to remove clothing in time at least once a week. if go out take change of clothes and wipes and waer pads. Explained this at medical and said previously had full bladder repair for stress incontinence previously so this incontinence was not stress incontinence but medical states stress incontinence and I scored mo points in the continence section.

How do i prove my incontinence at appeal and has anyone got any info on ME and incontinence as I am having difficulty finding any?

Sorry if this is muddled but brain foogging bad at moment and all this stress is making it worse.

thanks

To be placed in the Support Group becuase of incontinence you need to show that you meet the following legal descriptor.

8. Absence or loss of control over extensive evacuation of the bowel and/or voiding of the bladder, other than enuresis (bed-wetting),despite the presence of any aids or adaptations normally used.

At least once a week experiences:
(a) loss of control leading to extensive evacuation of the bowel and/or voiding ofthe bladder; or
(b) substantial leakage of the contents of a collecting device sufficient to require the individual to clean themselves and change clothing.

The ATOS view on incontinence is described in section 3.2.10 of the WCA Handbook, see

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa

Have you been referred to an Incontinence Clinic? If so, would they be prepared to write a report?

What does your GP have to say on the matter? Would they be willing to help?

Hi Gordon

Got a GP who does not understand ME so only see them once in a blue moon!
Told atos that incontinence NOT stress incontince but they have said it is stress incontinence.(I had surgery which corrected this in 1998).

8a applies but not sure how I prove this.

You need to provide medical evidence to support your claim, if you have not seen your GP about the problem or been referred to a specialist clinic then the only other suggestion I have is to request a copy of your medical records, however, you should only do this if you believe that they would contain documents that would support you. See

Charging for medical records

Failing this my only other suggestion would be a statement from a partner or carer, who has intimate knowledge of your problems, and could attest to the significance and frequency of your problem.
