When you have an ESA Face to Face medical, is it just a private room with 1 person doing the medical? Or perhaps a panel of people and support staff?

G

It is a private examination room, there is usually a desk with a computer terminal on it, a chair for the claimant and an examination table. You will wait with other claimants in a reception area until called and will then be seen by a single Health Care Professional, they can be anything from a Physiotherapist to a Doctor.

One additional point. Although the formal examination is as Gordon describes, it is acknowledged that your behaviour in the waiting room will be caught on CCTV cameras and the "Disability Analyst" (the person doing the main interview) may use this as part of their report. It has even been noted that a claimant's ability to deal with the staff at the desk can be used to demonstrate their physical or - most particularly - their mental health.

Others on this forum has even pointed out that there are external CCTV on the approaches to the building and it is believed that these too could be brought into the assessment process if the person doing the main bit of the assessment thinks that the claimant is putting on an act which will be abandoned when the claimant is outside the building. Certainly you may be asked how you got to the assessment centre - especially if it is some distance from any suitable parking.

So the assessment in the interview room is not the entirety of the process and you should assume that you are being watched and the experience of other staff may be used as part of the final report by the person who does the main interview.

Indeed Carruthers, we often advise claimants that the 'examination' starts when they leave home and does not finish until they are well on their way home.
