I told the PIP assessor that I could walk more than 20m but less than 50m 'repeatedly, safely and reliably.' My claim was turned down because I said I got up a number of times during the night to use the toilet and I could walk from room to room in my house. I have asked for a mandatory reconsideration on the grounds that the assessor, from Capita, has not measured the distances between rooms in my house so I supplied measurements for them. It is 9m from my bed to the toilet and when I get there I sit down. 
The furthest distance I would ever have to walk in my house is 17m from the end of my kitchen to the front door if I have to answer a knock. I advise anyone claiming benefits to buy a trundle wheel. Before I bought one I overestimated the distances I am able to walk.

There seems to be a general assumption by the ESA and PIP assessors that if you can move around your house without problem that you can move around outside without problem, ignoring the considerable differences between the two environments.
