hi all, this is my second time joining as a member, first time you helped me with my appeal from wrag to sg for which I am eternally graitful,i now need advise again as last week I got a letter from jc saying I had missed an appointment with a compliance officer,i never got a letter, anyway I phoned right away and he gave me a new one for tomorrow,i don't know what its for,but I have a feeling its because my ex has stayed a few times because he is homeless(long story)we have,nt been together for 10 years, also my son spends quite a lot of time here,is is 37,so this is what my panic is about, please any advise will be grateful,

Hi Gill, welcome back! In case you have forgotten, or things have changed since you were last here, this FAQ might help you find your way around.

It seems that quite a few of our members are undergoing compliance interviews at the moment. These are not related to your medical condition but can look at things like income/savings (for people on income-related benefits), whether a claimant is working whilst claiming ESA and also things like whether someone else is living with them if they are claiming as a single person.

It is impossible to say for certain but it is possible that you are correct that DWP will be looking at whether your son or ex are living with you. Were you asked to have any paperwork ready for inspection?

Are you sure that this is not an 'Interview under caution'? If it is, then that is a more serious matter and you would be advised to have legal representation. Otherwise all I can advise is that you should have available any documentation they have asked for and also any evidence that your son is living elsewhere. It might be harder regarding your ex if he is homeless as you will not be able to show documentation that he is living elsewhere, if you have anytihng or anyone that can back this up then that might be helpful.

You are entitled to have someone with you during the interview and you should beware of the temptation to volunteer information as a way of filling silences.

Please repoly to this post if you have any further questions and we will do our best to help.

hi,thanks for getting back to me,because I never got the original letter I don't know what its about, but when I phoned up I was,nt told to take anything with me,but the same thing happened to my daughter 3 months ago and she was asked to take bank statements,id and utility bills, but I have,nt been asked for anything, should I take them just in case,i do live alone but my daughters look after me,i would never see my ex homeless as even though we are not together we have remaned friends(I think there is enough bitterness in the world)what do you think I should do,

I think all you can do is take whatever documantation you can with you and see what transpires. Try to resist the temptation to answer questions that they have not asked, let them introduce the subject of their interest.

At least you won't have too long to worry about this, please come back and let us know how you get on.

hi,well I went to my compliance meeting with all my paper work even though they did,nt ask for any and was completely gob smacked when I was told I had been asked in because the inland revenue had informed them I had 2 isa,s,i was aked when I got them,if I had them before I was transferred to esa from ib,why I did,nt declare them,i don't think on my esa form that I got asked about savings,he told me he wants statements from august 2012,so he can work out how much my benefit needs to be reduced by,so I was barking up the wrong tree in the beginning,my 2 isa,s are worth £9000,and don't mature until 2016,so I,m don't know for a few weeks how much I will loose, has this happened to anyone else,
