Agree totally Gordan.

What I should have said was that when one completes the ESA/DLA/PIP forms and say that you can only use a manual wheelchair for safety reasons for sleep apnea, for example, and then go on to say you are able to go out when you use a scooter, they might well be concerned as it is a bit contra indicative.

Hello

I seem to need to make clearer what I meant. I cannot propel a wheelchair myself because of shoulder problems so I need an attendant wheelchair, which is what they are supplying me with. My sleep apnoea is just a condition I have and not the reason I am claiming PIP, I have other health issues.

I had to inform DVLA that I have sleep apnoea, again for safety reason. Sleep apnoea untreated is a life threatening condition, mine is treated, DVLA know I have this and have cleared me to drive. I don’t drive because I deem driving not safe with my condition but that is my preference.

I merely mentioned to the assessor about an electric wheelchair more as a joke but he was quite serious about the sleep apnoea, I asked him about a scooter and he said most people like me had one to get out and about but explained that shops would not accept the scooter like they do a wheelchair, as there are laws regarding wheelchair users, but not scooter users. I do not particularly want a scooter either, for the same reasons I don’t drive, but need to regain my social life a little.

Hope this clears things up.

Hi

Sent my form off Monday, got a letter from Atos this morning saying they are looking at my claim and saying it will take about 12 to 16 weeks  to get an appointment, do they normally let you know they have received your letter, if so seems very efficient as I don't need to worry about whether they got it or not?

Thanks

I'm not aware of ATOS acknowledging receipt of the PIP form, maybe they are doing so as a result of the current waiting times. Mind you, if that were the case it would have helped if they had been honest about the time a claimant should expect to wait!
