Is there an official DWP or site template for submitting a Change of Circumstance letter.

What paperwork do I submit to them notifying of a Change?

I once got fined for submitting a hand-written letter, allegedly not in correct format.

Thanks.

You can report a change of circumstances to the DWP in writing or by phone, unless the DWP tells you to report it in writing. If you change your name, the DWP will want details in writing.

The number to contact is on your original decision letter. Some numbers will soon be free, but they are not on the GOV.uk site at present.

If you report a change by phone, it's a good idea to confirm it in writing and to keep a copy of your letter. When you write, be sure to give:

your name and address

your National Insurance number

what the change is

the date the change happened or is due to happen.

Your phone call to the DWP will be recorded. You can ask DWP to send you a written record of the call if you need one. For example, you might need one if you disagreed with the DWP about whether you had reported a change or not.

Hi L,

There is no formal template for reporting a Change of Circumstances (C of C) to The DWP.

There is a Guide to reporting a C of C for DLA recipients under the link entitled :

"Changes Of Circumstances For People Claiming Disability Living Allowance"

On this page :

DLA Guides

Although the information is pertaining to DLA recipients, most of what is written would also apply to other benefits such as ESA.

The important issue in sending a letter to The DWP reporting a C of C, is to make sure you write your full name and address, DOB, NI Number and date at the top of each page.

It may also help if you write 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3, etc, etc on each page.

Always keep a copy, and post it recorded signed for delivery to the address of the benefits office/centre in question that is on your most recent benefits letter.

It may help further if you write your name and postcode on the reverse, top, right of the envelope, and the name of the benefit in question with Change of Circumstances in front, top, left corner.

Sending Documents to the DWP or ATOS

You can then check on-line at : Royal Mail Track & Trace that it has been delivered and signed for, and you should print off and keep this with the receipt that you will receive from the Post Office.

Simply make it clear what the C of C is that you are reporting and give as much detail as possible.

I don't know how the DWP got away with fining you ? did they state that the letter was illegible ?
