Hi. I currently claim ESA and am in WRAG. My JCP office has contacted me to see if I would be willing to help out at job centre once a week. I mentioned in an earlier conversation I would be willing to work voluntarily at a library for instance assisting people unfamiliar with the internet. The job centre role would be similar but assisting job seekers. I asked if it was voluntary and she said yes and if I didn't enjoy it I would not be forced to carry on.

Is anyone else aware of this sort of thing being carried out, actually volunteering at JCP?

Thanks

Hi O,

"Is anyone else aware of this sort of thing being carried out, actually volunteering at JCP? "

On my part, this is a first !!

They must like you O !!

WRAG claimants can be compelled to take part in voluntary work, if it is "for the good of the community"

I suppose in this case it could be deemed as such.

I would be surprised if they would compel someone to work in The JCPlus, if they did not wish to, as they may "agitate" the masses.

One thing to be aware of is that some "Voluntary" WRA, can then become "Mandatory" once you have signed to say that you agree to carry it out for a stipulated period.

If they are saying that you can discontinue this activity if you "don't like it" or can't manage it with your health conditions, it may be worthwhile getting this in writing.

Hi O,

A comedic afterthought !!

If you carry this out, and you are successful, and offered a full time job at JC Plus, we may see you at the next Tory Conference !!!

Held up as a shining example of how successful IDS's great programme is in helping sick and disabled people into work !!!

You never know !! :)
