Medical appointment clashes with holiday was created by Phillipswife
I sent back my review form on the 20th January this year and was hoping I was in the batch that wasn't going to be seen after Atos started to pull out of their contract. Unfortunately no, I got the white envelope on Saturday with an appointment for my medical on the 2th Ocotober. After I got over the shock it realised this was the week my daughter is taking me away. I haven't been on holiday for 14 years and I have just had neuro surgery on my neck, so my hubby thought I needed one. I can't cancel the holiday but will have to cancel the medical, do you have to tell them you are away, does it go against your claim?

I was getting excited about going on holiday but now you can imagine how I am feeling. I have been on IB for 18 years and transferred to ESA and put in the Support Group 2 years ago without having to have a medical. I had a medical after a couple of years when I first received IB which I failed but I appealed and won. Just after I sent my form back in January, I started to have more problems with my back and after a MRI scan this showed I needed neuro surgery, and I have also been referred to a psychologist in October. None of which the DWP know about. Will this new information be taken into account at the medical? I have copies of the letters from the consultants which were sent to my GP.

I just want to thank all of you for your invaluable help this last two years, I have renewed my membership each year, and will continue to do so.

If you have not previously told the DWP that you would not be available during this week then any cancellation will count against you and will likely use up one of your two appointments for the WCA. ATOS should offer you a new appointment which you will have to attend or risk having your claim closed for failing to attend.

You do not need to explain why you cannot attend, just that you are unavailable on that day. If you do mention either as a reason for not attending or during the WCA that you are/have been on holiday then it will be used as information for the assessment and the ATOS assessor may make assumptions as to your capabilities as a result, you should be prepared to counter those assumptions if necessary.

Things that may be assumed by your going on holiday include; that you can sit for long periods, that you can walk more than 200m, that you do not suffer from social phobia or agoraphobia, that you are not affected by change.

Thank you Gordon for your help and information, I will telephone them tomorrow to re-arrange my medical date. It is Sod's law, isn't it, that the minute this holiday was booked two weeks ago, they write to me after nine months of waiting to hear from them! Just more stress that I don't need at the moment. Thank you Again, Phillipswife.
