I'm always nervous of making a generalisation as it always results in a post, but I would expect most people who are restricted in the distance they can walk to also have reduced walking speed.

To expand on this for other members reading this post, if you do want to be able to quote your walking speed to an assessor, then you need to actually test it for your selves, one of the most common reasons that DLA mobility (and even more so for PIP), is refused is because the claimant has given inconsistent information about the distance they can walk and their walking speed.

So measure of an area you can walk in and time yourself, don't do it once, do it multiple times, at different times of the day, even different days of the week, so that you get a full picture of your capabilities, for example some might be able to walk further and faster first thing in the morning whereas for others it will be the opposite.

Avoid converting your distance and speed in to other formats unless you are very sure of your maths, e.g. metres to yards or km/h to miles/h, as it is easy to make a mistake and come up with answer that are wildly inaccurate.

Another update, this I think is quite important. When the assessor came, I asked if she would take my further evidence with her, she refused and told me to send it in together with anything I forgot to tell her. I asked which address to send it to, and was told the one at the top of your DLA letter, I am migrating from DLA to PIP (hopefully!). I gathered together all the info, duly put on my ref number on every sheet, and just to make sure of the address, this morning rang DLA in Blackpool, they told me to ring a freephone PIP number. When I got through and explained the Capita assessor would not take my further evidence with her, he was taken aback and said she should have done. I then asked if I should send it to Blackpool, he asked my postcode, which is NG he then explained that Yorkshire were dealing with NG claims and I should send it to PIP, Mail Handling Site A, Wolverhampton WV98 1AD where it would then be forwarded to Yorkshire, he also stressed to only get a proof of posting, anything else and it would be delayed as it would have to go to Blackpool to be signed for and then forwarded to Wolverhampton and so on to Yorkshire. He told me I should have a decision within 2 weeks, so needless to say I posted off first class this morning. The worrying thing I found is that some people may be losing out because it is not publicised where to send your info to, if everyone is sending it to Blackpool, then the info is not getting to the decision maker in time. Hope this helps anyone else.

The DWP procedures for assessors require them to accept and review any new evidence presented to them at the assessment interview.

I have to say I am a little confused over the delivery information that you were given by the DWP, we are not aware of any requirement for mail requiring a signature for delivery to be sent to the Blackpool office for signature before being sent on to the office dealing with the claim. The signature is collected by the Royal Mail at the time of delivery, there is no mechanism for it to be signed for at any point after this, whatever the DWP might do with it or not.

Thanks Gordon, I just hope I was given the correct information this morning, but he did make it quite clear to me, if it was sent registered or recorded then it would automatically be sent on to Blackpool. Therefore I got my proof of posting, not sure now whether to copy the whole lot again and send it to Blackpool anyway, at least they will get one lot.

It is perfectly possible that the DWP will send the information Blackpool first, their internal mail system is appalling, but it will not be because it requires a signature in regard to Royal Mail Recorded or Next Day Delivery.

Just rang Blackpool again, and the lady there was very helpful, yes I have sent my info to the correct address at Wolverhampton, nothing regarding PIP should be sent to Blackpool, they are DLA only and they would have to forward everything on which results in delays.
She did however tell me to write to customer services and ask them to put the different addresses on the DWP website, as there is not one address to be found on their site. I have written to them, so hopefully more information will be available to people.
