OK, the dreaded ESA50 finally arrived last week - just as one of our computers died!

I'm going through it moderately systematically and coming up with all sorts of queries. I think the first one not covered by the guide is about mobilising, which is vital to my claim.

The form gives you several options, the first of which is "can mobilise 50m". Well, I can't - certainly not repeatedly or safely or ... First instinct was to duck this by ticking "It varies" - which it does - mostly between 5m and 20m. But I read your correspondence with noodles from some months ago, where you nixed the "varies" box for this option.

Can you really leave no box checked even on something which is as important as this - might they just ignore you?

I can explain my "mobilising" but it might take more than just that box, which means there would be nothing except a "see attached document no 6" (or whatever) - which might create a bad impression.

(Side whinge - why do they assume that you have "a disability" when most of us have lots of separate, but related problems?)

Don't feel constrained by the available tick boxes, if they do not fit the way that you want to explain you limitations then simply mark them with a "see below" and explain in the comments box or attached pages.

The problem with using "it varies" is that you have to explain all of the circumstances in which it varies; min, max and how you are for the majority of the time, frequency and for how long, perhaps even times of day, etc.

If you are always unable to mobilise more than 50m then you should not consider "it varies" as you are always unable to do this, don't forget that Mobilising includes your propelling a manual wheelchair as well as your walking.
