Cheers Bro58.

Is it permitted to bring either my ESA50 or some notes in to the assessment?

I'm a bit concerned that I may not remember every single detail of all my conditions and how they affect me. Thanks.

Hi K68,

You should be aware that this could be construed as you prompting yourself to give the "correct" responses.

As you will have seen from the sections that I pointed you to at Pages 68 & 70 of The ESA Claims Guides, most of the questions are not actually "Medical".

They are questions pertaining to things like going out, shopping, watching TV, etc.

These questions are part of The LiMa Software Programme that is used to carry out the assessment.

The HCP will key in your response, then the LiMA Software will come up with an "assumption" from your response.

This is explained in our Guides as mentioned above.

There may be a brief "medical" examination, but nothing in depth.

Remember this is a "Capability" Assessment, where the limitations that you suffer as a result of your conditions are assessed. rather than the conditions themselves.

It will obviously help to show that you do actually suffer from the medical conditions.

You could take a copy of The ESA50, although the HCP should have a copy present which they are supposed to read before the assessment.

You could also take some brief notes if you have memory problems, bearing in mind my opening sentence in this post, and how this may be viewed by The HCP as "pre-planning" your responses in advance.

Cheers bro58 - I won't bring anything. The reason i ask is that one of the questions in those sections is "what are your main conditions" - does this just mean they want me to list them off rather than go in to detail about all the ways they affect me?

Hi K68,

Hopefully, the ATOS HCP should be aware of your existing medical conditions, from information that you provided in/with The ESA50.

If you haven't already done so, you could take along a copy of your repeat prescribed medication.

You could also type up a list of your existing medical conditions, and hand both over to The HCP before the assessment.

They will only expect you to list them, rather than give graphic details, that is what The ESA50 is for.

You only have to answer questions that are asked of you.

Our guide of what to expect, is written with the aim of warning you of the hidden implications of what could be seen as quite innocuous and obscure questions.

The average time taken for an ESA "Medical" is around 40 mins to 1 hour.
