Can the PIP assessor physical examine you hands on, such as blood pressure, pulse, without good reason.

Paul, I would expect the assessor might do things like check B/P and pulse and perhaps check the range of movement of limbs or assess the strength thereof. I think the assessment itself would be considered ' good reason'.

Of course, the assessor should explain what s/he is going to do and ensure that you have given consent. You can with-hold this consent but should expect the assessment to be discontinued and, quite possibly, your claim refused if you were to do so.

A brief examination of the claimants hand, knees and ankles is usually part of the assessment, blood pressure may also be checked.

Claimants are entitled to refuse a physical examination but it may count against you if the refusal is not because it would cause you pain or in relation to a mental health issue.

At home visit from a Capita hp I asked about the blood pressure check and she said they don't do it as they don't have the right equipment and that they weren't getting accurate readings.
