PIP capita assesment was created by Nik
Hi all,

I am due to undergo a home assessment for PIP by Capita. I am currently in receipt of High rate DLA for both care and Mobility as I suffer from a very rare Neurological illness.

In my application form for PIP, I specifically asked for name and qualifications of the healthcare professional carrying out the assessment. I have written several letters requesting this information. To date Capita/DWP have been unable to provide me with this information. I am of the opinion I will not get this information as my assessment is due to take place very shortly.

My concern is that I 'may', albeit rather innocently be incorrectly assessed?? We all know the questions tend to be standard 'tick box' questions!

My question to you guys is; Does anyone have any experience of letting the assessor know from the outset of the interview that you feel they may not be suitably qualified to carry out the assessment (after asking the assessor their qualifications and finding out they are a nurse)? Also what impact this had on your benefits if the assessment/interview was then terminated on the basis that you feel there is a risk you may be incorrectly assessed?

Does anyone know were we stand as individuals if you feel that you are not getting a fair hearing from the outset?? Appreciate any personal experiences or sound (non legal of course) advice on this matter.

Kind regards

Nik

This is a common question that we see here and on other forums and I am afraid there is no good answer to it.

The DWP set the standard for all PIP assessors through the training that each assessor has to undertake, all assessors are therefore of a suitable standard. The DWP view is that they are not required to have a detailed knowledge of any particular illness or disability as they are performing a functional assessment of the claimant not a medical one.

I have to warn you that failing to participate in an assessment (this is different from cancelling it in advance), can and probably will result in your PIP claim being closed and as a result your DLA.

I am afraid that this is a battle that claimants can only have once a Decision has been made.

Thank you Gordon for your reply.

Thanks for putting me in the general picture of where we stand on this subject matter.

Does anyone know what or are there any published lists of questions that can be asked by the assessor?

Kind regards

There is a section at the back of the PIP Claim guide that covers the assessment process and likely questions.
