Carers Allowance and PIP was created by Joe Gahagan
My wife currently receives DLA and I receive Carers Allowance. My own health has went downhill and I struggle with many daily tasks. My GP has advised that I should apply for PIP. I wonder if applying would result in losing carers allowance or if it would put it in danger. We struggle as it is and do not want do anything that would leave us worse off. Can anybody advise. Thanks!

I am afraid there is no clear cut answer to this.
The issue of CA and PIP has implications in both directions, your caring duties may undermine your claim for PIP and being in receipt of PIP may call into question your ability to provide a minimum of 35 hours of care a week.
Legally there is no restriction to someone claiming both benefits nor is it automatic that the DWP will look at someone who is, issues may arise where your limitations and those of your wife fall into the same area, you both have physical limitations or mental health issues, where they are different it should be possible to argue that there is no conflict.

Jock. I would leave well enough alone, if I were you. At least you get carers just now. the DWP is in enough of a muddle and if it was me, I wouldn't be taking the chance,seeing as they are restricting every benefit severely. That is not advice in any way, just my personal opinion, having dealt with them.
