I am so pleased that you advised me to do an SAR request for the
documentation on my recent successful IB / ESA migration.

They arrived well after a month if I had needed an appeal.

Delighted to find I had 27 points but amazed at the inaccuracies that
under other circumstances might have denied me support group status.

Over 200 pages of photocopies, including every sick note in 90's. But
completely missing were all the up to date reports detailing my worst problems.

The scoresheets were vital and showed for example that on one descriptor I got 12 points
in 2001 but only 6 in 2014, impossible on a progressive disease. Still
does not affect me with 27 points but would others. People must get SAR's

In spite of the fact that Gordon found I was on list of conditions that must
be aeen by a qualified Doctor I was seen by a Reg Nurse.

Thanks You so much B & W, with this help I will now be
able to get more points on my next assessment.

Glad to hear that they arrived relatively promptly.

With regard the points decreasing, I think you are forgetting that in 2001 you were assessed under the IB rules and more recently under the ESA ones, the points scoring is very different between the two.

As you are in the SG, it is not points that count, you should identify what I assumes was a 15 point score that also corresponded to one of the SG criteria for your next assessment.

These are both very valid points that I had missed. Thank You.

Shocked to find on the scoresheet that with a much worse
physical problem, ten years later I got half the points, It shows how
much tougher the descriptors are.

My GP only wrote seven words. The diagnosis and which specialist department I
was under. No paperwork at all from Ten years under those people and no
mention on DM report.

Feel I should have got 15 points on at least two descriptors. As I got in
support group on one and 27 points assume tere is no point appealing
just best to know where to focus in three years time.

Thanks again.

Once you have met one of the SG Descriptors you qualify for the SG, they therefore do not continue to look for further qualifying Descriptors as you cannot be "more" in the SG, there is no opportunity for you to appeal this.

On closer inspection of my SAR documents I am amazed to find that most of them
are not current at all.

The Scoresheets are from 2001 and 2008 where I got 27 points in the latter.

You make the valid point that the system was different there. The whole
point of doing the SAR was to be better prepared for the next re-assessment.
Is there any point asking them to give up to date documents ?

Also my DM was a Registered Nurse where my condition was on the DWP list that
Gordon fond that must be dealt with by a Doctor (or would that only apply to
F2F?).

Still delighted with your help that secured my SG decision after 71 weeks wait.

The score sheets from 2001 until 2008 will relate to assessments done for IB, as such I am afraid they are of no value in regard to your ESA, there is very little correlation between the scoring systems for IB and ESA and as you have posted your conditions are a lot worse now.

The requirement for a doctor to be used for certain conditions is part of the contract between the DWP and ATOS for the provision of medical services for ESA, as a consequence, whilst claimants should expect to be seen by an appropriate Health Care Professional and can certainly make much of it should they need to appeal their Decision, the requirement is not defined in the ESA legislation and therefore claimants have no legal right to require that an appropriate HCP is used.

There should be an ESA85A assessment report which I assume you have, this and an LT54 are likely to be the only documents that will give you any indication of why you qualified for the Support Group. The ESA85A in particular should indicate the Descriptor, it will either be identified specifically or more likely it will be one of the 15 point Descriptor, usually marked with an "a", although not all of these correspond to SG Descriptors.
