DLA renewal

My DLA award runs out in Jan, I was sent a DLA renewal form think because im still in an area not changed over to PIP yet postcode TA, anyway its been 8 weeks and haven't heard anything back , they sent me a letter saying they got my renewal form back 22/09/2014 but nothing else , should I ring to check to see how things are going ? or leave it well alone ,after a 16 month wait I was informed 3 weeks ago that im being transferred from IB to Esa support group , without a face to face ,and was also wondering if DLA base any descions on the Esa award , A Big thanks by the way I am a member of Benefit and Work ,and without all your help and advice plus the guides, I would not be in receipt of my ESA support group award , Thank you !

I would contact DLA for an update in the near future.

Whereas you continued to receive the same rate of IB payments whilst awaiting an ESA decision, your DLA is a fixed term award, and unless renewed, it will cease in January 2015.

I cannot see how contacting DLA for an update would have an adverse effect on the renewal. It could however highlight any problems with the renewal, if there are any.

The only way that an ESA Award/Medical Report may have an adverse effect on a DLA award would be if there was anything contained in The ESA Medical Report which was in direct contradiction to your DLA award.

An ESA SG award should be a good indication that you suffer a high level of disability, and one would therefore surmise that it would aid any DLA award.

Mine runs out on 3rd December and I sent my forms back in early September. I have been ringing weekly and the paperwork isn't with a decision maker yet, it's still on the 'processing' file. All they could tell me was they are currently working on renewals received in July and first fortnight of August and could be another 3 - 4 weeks before they even look at mine. Meantime my payments will stop and I believe my car could have to go back.

Hi MB,

You could contact your M.P. to complain regarding the length of time DLA are taking to come to a decision on your renewal.

Especially as you returned the renewal pack circa 3 months before the end of your current award :

Contacting your MP

You could also inform the M.P. that this delay may cause problems with your current Motability Lease Agreement.

It may also be advisable to : Contact Motability to discuss the potential problems.

Motability do have some discretion, but they are not as lenient as they used to be.
