ESA income related premiums was created by Karen
Rather confused. I read a post earlier about ESA income related plus pension. I just want to enquire about something I had to deal with today.
Working age person gets income related ESA & support group. As he is single & in the support group am I right in saying he should also get the enhanced disability premium of £15.55 & is the enhanced disability premium the same as the disability income guarantee ?
This person also receives a small monthly pension of approx £45 . Do the DWP need to be informed of this extra income and as it is a small amount will any money be deducted from his benefit. Are there any guides I can read about other income ?
Thanks

Your friend should have declared there pension when they claimed ESA(IR) or when the pension became payable, whichever is the later, if they have not done so, then there is likely to have been an overpayment of their benefit that will be recoverable.

Any income that a claimant has while receiving ESA(IR) is deducted £ for £ from their payments, the only exception to this is Permitted Work.

The Enhanced Disability Premium, also known as the Disability Income Guarantee is payable for claimants in the SG. It would be unusual for someone receiving ESA(IR) to not already be receiving this Premium, although not impossible.

Is it best to write to the DWP informing them of pension payment or should we just telephone? Do we need to send evidence of when the pension started & the amount ?
Would they still pay my friend his benefit until they sort it out?
As it's just a small pension they will probably be a deduction on £12.00 each week.
I think the benefit system is extremely complicated & because friend had been on contribution based ESA initially before transferring to income based that's where oversight has occurred because your allowed to receive some pension when contribution based.
Oh well needs sorting

I would recommend doing everything in writing so there is a record of all correspondence.

There is a strong possibility that their ESA payments will be suspended until the mater is resolved.

I am afraid that being in receipt of ESA(CB) does not exempt a claimant from notifying the DWP that they are in receipt of an occupational pension even if it would not have resulted in a reduction in that ESA(CB), it is for the DWP to decide that the OP is disregarded not the claimant.
