pip claim was created by rachel1
Hello,

I wondered if someone could advise me. I sent off my pip claim form back in june last year. I received my invitation for a face to face assessment last week, it's at the end of march. Since sending off my form, which stated my 2 mental health diagnoses and how they affected me, I have also been assessed for ASD, and was diagnosed with autism recently.

I am planning on sending the letter to my GP stating my autism diagnosis to Atos, and also to the DWP, although I'm not sure how to get it to the decision maker for my case.

I came across a list today though, that seems to be a contract between the DWP and Atos, stating which conditions should preclude being invited to a face to face assessment, and Autism was on that list. Do you know if this list still relates to PIP, or if the list actually is ever followed anyway? If so, should I mention this when I send my autism diagnosis off?

Thankyou

The document you refer to is part of an alleged contract between the DWP and ATOS in regard to DLA assessments, a similar clause may exist in regard to PIP but I am not aware of details of that contract being in the public domain, so there is no way of knowing , also the agreement is between ATOS and the DWP, there is no such clause in the legislation that defines which claimants are to be assessed or the DWP guidance to PIP assessors.

So, you can certainly include the reference, but I think it unlikely that it will have any effect, I am certain that claimants with Autism have had face to face assessments for both DLA and PIP in recent years.

Sorry for posting again about my pip claim. I have my medical this week, and i have been reading more about what is likely to happen. I am very anxious that I will become distressed during the medical and will be unable to answer questions, certainly I will forget things I meant to say, and will give less details than I should. I may become unable to speak at all.

I was thinking of trying to write down what I wanted to say, and maybe pass it to my support worker to say it for me. But I'm not sure if that would be allowed, and even if it was would it count against me that I have written down my answers like that? I can't imagine being able to give coherent answers without some tool like that.

I do not see anything wring with what you are suggesting, the only thing I would suggest is that you make sure that the assessor understands why you are doing this at the start of the interview, this itself could be in the form of a note.

Just to let you know, I have had my PIP decision today.

I received the invitation to apply for PIP in 05/14 (was on LRM and MRC DLA)
Sent back form 06/14
Invitation to medical 03/15 - cancelled
Medical 04/15

They have awarded me Enhanced Daily Living, and 4 points for Mobility on mental health/ASD grounds. I'm so relieved, this has been weighing on my mind for a year now. Although I don't agree with the Mobility aspect, as I do not undertake any journeys alone, and someone always navigates for me, I won't challenge this as my Care/Daily Living has increased.

Thank you all for your help, it's been invaluable.
