HELP!! WORK ARE TRYING TO GET RID OF ME

I work for the local authority in a school, I have been off work since we started back in September 2014.

I have seen oh who said they did not need to see me agin until I saw a consultant.

I have thought I had chronic pain syndrome and fatigue, but upon seeing a different doctor on monday see told me that I have Fibromyalgia I said I have never been told that and was she sure, se said yes it was on the screen.

Later in the afternoon I had a meeting with HR and my union rep as they were looking to finish me and I was on a final review meeting. We told her that we had just received this diagnosis anyway she went away saying she would speak to the head.

I got a call on the wednesday off my union rep saying that hr had contacted him and to let me know that they were looking to retire me on ill health.

My ssp runs out on the 18th of March, i know i can claim contribution based esa.

I need some help and advice on what to do with this ill health and some help about claiming esa as I have never been on benefits before and it all seems really hard to understand.

Is there anyone who can help me or give me advice please :S

Welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear that you find yourself in this situation.

With regard to what is happening to you and work, you need to speak to your union rep, they will understand your conditions of employment and what your employer can and cannot do.

As to the ESA. If your SSP is about to end then you can make a claim now for ESA to start the day after the SSP ends, you will need a Fit Note from your GP to send to the DWP and an SSP1 certificate from your employer stating your SSP has ended.

You can make a claim in writing by downloading an ESA1 form from Gov UK or by phoning the ESA Hotline. The following link has information on how to contact the DWP.

www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/overview

You should have a look at our ESA guides. Our Understanding ESA guide explains the process in more detail and our ESA Claim guides explain how to complete the ESA50 form that you will be sent once your claim has been accepted. The guides are on the following link

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa1

If you have any specific questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help you.

Thank you for replying so promtly.

I am extremely worried at the moment as you can imagine.

If I phone up what do I have to say. Is it that I want to claim Esa or do i have to request esa 50 or for mental or physical I'm a bit confused.

What questions do they ask when you phone them, do I need anything to hand.

Once again thank you

The guides explain what questions you will be asked and the information you will need to have in order to make a claim, the link I provided has the phone number for new ESA Claims.

Be very careful and take good advice.
Will you be eligable for a pension from work, ie taking your pension earlier due to illhelath and if you are eligable find out how much you will get and for how long etc etc as all of this is a minefield when retired due to ill health.
Also when the OH Dr retires you from employment discuss with him/her if the retirement due to illhelath is for your work alone or for any work in the future regardless of type of work and locaiton, and also how that will impinge on any retirement pension you will be getting.
The union rep should be able to assist, but take other qualified advice too as this is a very important aspect of what is happening to you.
I was led up the garden path in my naivity with the subject at the time. To the detrement of my finances and ability to cope with the Local Govt and its Union rep. I was in a mid senior role within Local Govt and ended up leaving due to illhealth and signed off permanently from employment with any forom of work but minus a pension, due to me taking things at face value !!! I would hate anyone to go thru what I went thru because of not getting ones head around the situation properly.

I dont know how it all works, i have seen that some times you mutally agree to finish work and they pay you off with a lump sum,

i have been having a look at being finished with Fibromyalgia on ill health but it does not look promising, I dont think i have found anyone who was finished on ill and on the top tier. I have seen a couple who got tier 3

I can access legal advice through my union.

I dont know if I can say 'NO' to ill health retirement. I dont think it will be worth it without gettting level 1 or level 2.

I have also seen voluntary redundacy??

Thanks to everyone who has left me a message- some great advice
