Have a look at page 17 of the current PIP Claim guide for a detailed explanation.

Please note that my medical evidence for autism is a little weak as im awaiting assessment. I was previously assessed as a child however records are kept until 26th birthday. im now 30. Ill be requesting a new fit note in a few days. im hoping the doctor will include autism on the sick note. It usually states anxiety and depression. I believe these were actually a side effect of autism.

After much consideration, ive had to change the mobility element of my pip claim to reflect this new medical information. Autism wasnt mentioned on my original application as i was at that point unaware of it. I am due to go to tribunal in may. I do believe that some of the things i was attempting to explain were actually a result of autism rather than depression. The difficulties were explained however i was trying to attribute them to depression.

I have social anxiety and mild IBS. The ibs will be worstened by social anxiety. Therefore id rather not use a mode of public transport that doesnt have toilets(the bus). In order to get to my girlfriends about 15 miles away, Ill walk to the train station about 20 minutes away (very close to town centre) and then get a train. Trains have toilets aswell as being a shorter journey so are more suitable. I then have about a 10 minute walk to get to my girlfriends.

If i need to go to town get some shopping done, ill also walk to the town which is next to the train station. I could get the bus but again would rather avoid it due to social anxiety and ibs.

A common symptom of autism is hyper focus. this is basically the inability to multi task. If my mind is deep in thoughts, im unable to also think about where im going. This can lead to me accidentally going to the town when i should be getting the train, or vise versa. If i accidentally walk into town and miss my train, then ive got to wait an hour for the next one. Likewise if i accidentally get on the train, ive got to get off at the next stop and wait for the next train in the opposite direction(hourly service again). Either way, id argue i haven't followed the journey to a reasonable standard or in a timely manner. I say not a reasonable standard as accidental getting on the train is going to cost me money for a accidental detour.

It was mentioned in a previous thread that this can cause me to walk into the road, however im concerned that as this is only an occassional occurance it may not meet the 50% rule. therefore am considering if focusing on something that would occur more often is a better option.

I do drive, however legislation states that it is only the ability to follow the journey on foot or public transport that should be assessed. I dont regularly complete that journey by foot/train as i have the car. this is what would happen if i didnt have the car. In the past, I have accidently ended up in milton keynes rather than stoke on trent on a return trip from manchester. Im aware that isn't a local journey so wouldn't apply, but it shows what can happen. Fortunetly it was early enough that there was still a return train.
