Hi S,

Have you thought of contacting : MIND

They should be able to help whilst respecting your request for confidentiality and anonymity.

so i went to the CAB citizens advice bureau and he didnt know a lot about it but he did say that it doesnt look like i could do permitted work unless it was supported so he advised me to get a support worker to help me,

this is so complicated and stressful, i keep getting mixed messages, my hopes go up and then back down :( kind of confused now :( i need help

what do you think about this?

Hi S,

You either misunderstood, or they are wrong !

Are you sure that they were not advising that you may need to do "Supported Permitted Work" due to your mental health issues ?

You can do either, see :

"Claiming ESA if you work

Your ESA isn’t usually affected if you either:

earn up to £20 a week

work for less than 16 hours a week and earn up to £104 a week, for 52 weeks or less (or for any length of time if you’re in the support group)

This is called ‘permitted work’.

You can also do ‘supported permitted work’ and earn up to £104 a week. This must be part of a treatment programme, or supervised by someone from a local council or voluntary organisation whose job it is to arrange work for disabled people.

There’s no limit to the number of hours per week or length of time you can do ‘supported permitted work’ for.

You must tell the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) if you start doing permitted work. They’ll send you form PW1 to fill in and send back to them.

Any volunteer work you do needs to be reported. It normally doesn’t affect your ESA."

From around half way down : This Page.

Maybe, you should try MIND, they may have more experience in advising ESA Claimants with mental health issues. :)
