ESA and ESA3 Claim Form was created by FunShaz
Having used the DWP Professional Medical Report on Fibromyalgia from the site, collecting data from my GP and providing prescription history, I finally got a letter stating that they decided there was no need for an assessment at this time (my ESA50 was submitted in August 2012). I was turned away from the assessment centre I went to in Luton, which is on the sixth floor of the building, because I was in a wheelchair and could not go down 126 steps in an emergency. I fought being sent further away for an assessment. I finally, recently, got a letter saying a doctor would be coming to my home for an assessment. I responded with the data mentioned above, and said that if they still thought I should be assessed, I was promised a recorded assessment and would have to have someone with me. That's when I got the response saying they decided no assessment was required, but I've seen others experience second attempts, etc. Today, I received a letter saying their records show I have been placed in the Support Group. Then it says if I qualified for 'income-related' ESA I may be entitled to an additional 'premium'. A form ESA3 is included. This is the only communication I've had back from the DWP. I get an Incapacity Age Addition, will I lose that? Does anyone know anything about this 'income-related ESA'? Why would that be pertinent when I've been on IB since 2000? With a DLA indefinite award and Mobility at the Higher Rate. The form asks about other benefits I receive and things that don't seem to apply. And it seems to invite a new 'assessment' process, talking about 13 weeks of basic benefit which they refer to as the 'assessment phase'. Just wondered if you've heard of this and know what they are up to? Will I not have any more of a statement and information about being placed in the Support Group and what that means?
thank you, Shaz T

If you were receiving Incapacity Benefit before you were transferred to ESA then you would have been moved to Contribution Based ESA which may include a Transitional Payment to ensure that your ESA payment is not less than you were receiving under IB.

ESA does not have an "Age Addition" so one of the things that a Transitional Payment would cover would be this.

ESA includes a number of Premiums (extra money), which are payable if the claimant meets certain conditions, one of these (the Enhanced Disability Premium) is payable of a claimant is placed in the Support Group.

However the Premiums are only paid if the claimant is entitled to Income Related ESA. The payment of ESA(IR) is dependant on your household income, your savings and assets, and any hours that your partner works. See

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

The DWP use an ESA3 form to capture this information. To be clear, this is not a re-assessment of your claim, just your eligibility for an ESA(IR) top-up to your ESA(CB).

If successful then you will receive more money and will also be passported to other benefits such as free prescriptions and dental care and possibly Housing Benefit and reductions in your Council Tax.

Being in the Support Group means that you are considered to have considerable disabilities, in addition to not being required to work or even to seek work (as on IB), you are also considered as being unable to perform any form of Work Related Activity, so basically the DWP will leave you alone while you continue to remain in the SG.
