ESA Result 24/04/15 was created by william mcdougall
Hi,

Wondered if any one can answer my query.

Applied for ESA on 17/04/15. got a letter today, 24/04/15, awarded payments from 01/05/15! Wow I thought that was a rapid response, no ESA 50 or medical!

I'm a bit confused about my group situation though

Have been awarded £73.10 (basic rate?) plus £15.75 for enhanced disability (?). Looks like it's contribution based.

It says I may have to attend a 'work focused interview' and/or a 'work capability assessment' and I must provide medical certificates until this has been done.

So my questions are: Is this normal? What group am I in, if any? Applied for housing benefit at same time - not mentioned in letter? They have not actually asked for anything, do I just wait for more correspondence?

Any comments readily accepted. HELP! :)

Thanks

William

Hi w mc,

I don't think that you have been placed into either group yet ! (WRAG or Support Group. (SG) )

I see from your previous post : HERE.

That you are also in receipt of Enhanced Rate PIP DL.

Therefore your ESA payments equate to £73.10/Week Personal Allowance as you are still in The Assessment Phase of ESA, and £15.75/Week Enhanced Disability Premium, (EDP) as you are in receipt of Enhanced DL PIP.

See : ESA Premiums

&

Benefit Rates 2015/16

Yes, you may be required to take part in a Work Focused Interview and you will have to be assessed under The ESA Works Capability Assessment. (WCA)

The WCA will involve you filling in an ESA50, and may or may not involve a face to face "medical" if they feel that you haven't provided enough evidence to make a paper based assessment.

You could make a start on The ESA50 now by : Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire

Whilst referring to the guides on this page :

ESA Claims Guides

See also :

How long do I have to complete the ESA50?

ESA50 too big for the envelope

&

Sending Documents to the DWP or Maximus (CHDA)

This would help to relieve the time constraints of the 4 week deadline to return your ESA50 once you receive it through the post.

You might also want to read our "Understanding ESA Guide" 2nd link down from the top of this page :

ESA Claims Guides

See also : ESA FAQ’s

As you are receiving The EDP, this means that you have entitlement to IR ESA.

Having entitlement to payment of IR ESA passports you to your full HB and Council Tax Support entitlement, however you need to apply directly to your Local Authority (LA)/Council.

Further information will be found on their website.

You will also have entitlement to free prescriptions and dental care.

You must continue to submit fit notes until you are told to the contrary.

Hope this helps and have a good weekend.

Hi BRO58,

Thanks for a very prompt reply.

The letter I have received does not comment on the ESA50 form, only on the possibility of the the aforementioned interviews/assessments.

I have read somewhere, not sure if it was here, that if you are awarded income related ESA & are in the support group you will receive the additional £15.75, but as you say it doesn't look like like I've been allocated to either group!

It is very confusing, why do they ask if you want to apply for housing benefit & council tax reduction, and take all the relevant information, if you have to apply separately?

Sure it is all designed to confuse claimants & try & stop us from pushing things forward!

Thanks Again.

Hi w mc,

Receiving, filling in and returning The ESA50 is part of The ESA WCA, along with a possible face to face assessment.

Yes, you are right, you can receive The EDP if entitled to payment of IR ESA and in The SG.

However, you can also receive it if entitled to payment of IR ESA and in receipt of Enhanced Rate DL PIP, which you are.

As you can see from the link that I provided in my previous post :

ESA Premiums

Obviously if you are eventually placed into The SG, you cannot receive it twice, it is either being in The SG, or in receipt of Enhanced DL PIP.

In one respect you are "lucky" as a lot of claimants in The Assessment Phase of ESA entitled to payment of IR ESA fail to receive ESA Premiums that they may be entitled to without having to "fight" for them.

If you read the information from the blue link you may be entitled to The Severe Disability Premium. (SDP) :

"Severe Disability Premium

You or your partner must satisfy all of the following:

be receiving the Care component of Disability Living Allowance (middle or higher rate)

or

"Personal Independance Payments Daily Living (either rate)

live alone (there are exceptions to this rule)

no one else must be getting carer's allowance for looking after you"

It would be the emboldened text that you would have to fulfil for payment of The SDP.

They may pass your information on to your LA/Council regarding a claim for HB/CTS, however it is your LA/Council that administer this and pay it to you/your Landlord.

Therefore, you should contact them in connection with your claim rather than The DWP.
