Hi s,

We always advise members not to let themselves be constrained by the "tick box" options on an ESA50 Questionnaire if they feel that none of the options are applicable to their own limitations.

If you feel that the options do not reflect your own limitations simply leave the boxes un-ticked and add a comment such as : "Non of the tick box options are applicable, please see my comments in the text box below" (and/or on added A4 page number xx if applicable)

You can then add your own comments in the text box continuing on added A4 pages if needed.

If you cannot mobilise, repeatedly, reliably and safely on the majority of the occasions that you attempt to mobilise, walking aided or unaided or by self propelling a manual wheelchair unaided (without any one else helping or pushing it) more than 20 metres then that is what you should write, providing reasons why, whilst cross referencing to any supporting medical evidence that supports this.

Remember, any distance that you can "mobilise", but suffer severe pain, discomfort, fatigue or breathlessness whilst doing so, should not be counted as a distance that you can mobilise.

All this is explained in our ESA Claims Guides.

Have you thought of : Using The PDF Version Of The ESA50 Questionnaire

Whilst referring to the guides on this page :

Remember, at some time in the future, you will be invited to claim PIP rather than DLA.

The distance used to assess whether a claimants should be awarded Enhanced Rate Mobility PIP for "walking" limitations is "less than 20 metres".

Whereas with DLA Mobility the bench mark distance is 50 metres.
