Help! PIP Application declined was created by vanilla01
I am in receipt of ESA (support group). I recently applied for PIP and within a week was called to a medical that was thorough and gave me every opportunity to explain my conditions and the severity of my symptoms, personal care and mobility issues. My Husband completed the form (as I can no longer write properly) I provided in depth explanations and know I meet the descriptors for the both components (definitely higher rate mobility). I submitted 25 letters detailing my "severe disability" from my specialist hospital (the most recent dated a week before the application was submitted), full list of my medications/extensive list of side effects and a comprehensive letter from my GP explaining my severely reduced mobility, reoccurrence accidents from falling and extensive personal care needs. I can honestly say the assessor was wonderful and I have no doubt he fully recorded the state that I was in just attending the appointment. I feel sure that the evidence has not been considered and need help, as to how best approach this. I am in my early 30's, now virtually housebound and heavily rely on my Husband to support me, as well as provide the care and assistance I need. It is a condition I developed after an accident at work and as it has already spread I have been told my condition is permanent. I have been told I have the opportunity to ask for the decision to be reconsidered and that I am to include additional evidence, what more could I include? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I am honestly in shock.

Hi Vanilla,

I'm sorry your PIP claim was turned down :( You now have nothing to lose by asking for this to be looked at again. If you have already sent in all the evidence you have, then you cannot send any more! In this case you can highlight the evidence that you have sent in and clearly reference it.

Requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration is covered in our PIP guide.

PIP help for claimants

It will help if you also request a copy of the assessment report, this will enable you to see where you did - and did not - score points. However, you might not get this in time to submit your MR request and you should not miss the 1 month deadline for this.

If/when you have further questions please reply to this message and we will do our best to help :)

Thank you for your reply. I received the notification letter this morning, confirming no award has been made. I am extremely shocked, as it is clear that none of the evidence I supplied has been assessed. It is almost as if the report isn't about me. The elaborated statement providing an explanation reads like it is a standard statement with my right arm inserted in a couple of sentences. The decision regarding both personal care needs completely contradicts the evidence supplied. I have request a copy of the assessment report (which I felt went exceptionally well) and verbally requested a mandatory reconsideration that I will follow up in writing, with supporting evidence once again. I am also contacting my local MP. I am honestly horrified.

Hi v01,

Sorry to hear of the adverse PIP Decision Notice letter !

They do copy and paste "stock phrases" inserting your personal details where applicable when compiling such letters, so what you state is not surprising.

Make sure you confirm your MR request in writing within one month of the date of the Decision Notice letter and please keep us up to speed !

Sending Documents to the DWP.
