With reference to John R's comments

the sheer numbers of claimants of indefinite DLA

do the Mods or John himself know how many DLA claimants have lifelong/ indefinite awards?

Thanks for any data....and all the best to mommaduck :)

These are the most recent figures I could find
www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/upl...wance_DLA_awards.pdf

I'm thinking its maybe 2.5 million or so by now. Obviously no one gets a lifetime award and hasn't done for some time.

Thanks foss27 :)

Sorry for the accidental double-post

If 2,000 indefinite" DLA claimants are processed every day it will take 24 years.

It is certainly true that all claimants are supposed to inform the DWP of any change(s) in their circumstances which includes their medical condition(s).
Certainly it follows that any improvement must be notified as it could lead to a reduction or withdrawal of benefit.
Any claimant on DLA for a number of years would theoretically have an up to date history to provide the DWP confirming their current situation which may have got worse which they may not have bothered telling the DWP.
I don't think this is the real issue being debated here.
I don't think this thread needs to go on much more.
Benefits & Work posted a news item for peoples information.
If anyone thinks it unfair or whatever it certainly isn't Benefit & Works fault that it is happening or responsibility to obtain further information etc.
Anyone who feels it needs to be followed up is totally free to do so.
This is not denying anyone the right to comment or free speech or whatever.
The news was reported.
End of.

2000 a day = 10000 a week = 500000 a year roughly so it will take 5 years or so?
Obviously the appeals process will collapse long before then.
It will be utter mayhem.

Thankyou,
The figures I have seen are official ones, which can be accessed by the public. Numbers on indefinite DLA award number around 3.3 Million currently.
Add to that new PIP claimants, ongoing and current.
Add to that existing PIP claimants awarded in 2013 ,on fixed 2 year award now coming back into the system for reasssement of PIP to PIP.
Add to that the same process next year with 2014 fixed 2 year claimants of PIP also coming back into the system .
All told the figure (my estimate )could well be nearer 5 million people ,which the DWP claim they can process over the next two years! !!!!
I will leave you to draw your own conclusions
Thankyou
