I finally got my request for information stuff in the post. A nice big jiffybag with hundreds of pages.

In doing this, this has allowed me to analyse the reports made for me by the DWP assessments.

One thing in particular that stands out with my Support Group appeal is that before I was granted the appeal, the representative asked my carer about mobilising 50 meters in my car, and my ability to propel a manual wheelchair.

While i am aware a manual wheelchair is counted as mobilising for ESA, can they also conclude that I could in theory mobilise 50 meters in a car if they wanted to? This seems ridiculous.

On an older report, the assessor sometimes states information is 'curtailed', what does he mean by this?

Hi JCP,

No, they couldn't count distance travelled in a car, no more that they can count any distance that you can "Mobilise" in/on a motorised/electric wheelchair/scooter!

ESA Activity 1., Mobilising, only considers the distance that you can walk, aided or unaided, and whether you could self propel a manual wheelchair unaided the same distance, even if you have never owned, used or been advised to use a manual wheelchair.

They assess whether it would be "reasonable" to deem you as being able to self propel the manual wheelchair unaided.

Mobilising Activity 1. :

"1. Mobilising unaided by another person with or without a walking stick, manual wheelchair or other aid if such aid is normally or could reasonably be worn or used."

Curtailed is used with respect to its' normal dictionary meaning, i.e. :

To cut short; cut off a part of; abridge; reduce; diminish.

e.g. Sometimes an assessor may "curtail" a face to face assessment as they consider that they have gained enough information to make a recommendation for an ESA award.
