Concerned about my home medical assessment was created by Limpy Lady
After four medical appointment being cancelled by Atos, they have notified me that they will be doing a home assessment, I am really worried about what to expect, will it be carried out in the same way as it would in a medical centre? Is there anything I should be aware of in particular?

Any help would be a real comfort

Hi and welcome to the forum. On the assumption that you are also new to the site, this link will help you find your way around.

A home assessment will take a very similar form to one in an assessment centre, the questions will be the same. The difference is that the assessor will not have access to the information on the computer, the record of the assessment will be handwritten first and then entered onto the computer at a later stage.

As you mention ATOS I assume this is a PIP claim? If you have a look at our PIP guide, towards the back, it will tell you what to expect from one of these assessments. It is not a 'medical' per se and you will not have to undress for an examination.

I hope that your assessment goes well and that you do not have to wait long for a favourable decision.

Hi Mrs hb
I just read in your answer that you say the assessment will be handwritten and entered on PC later? My last home assessment was done straight onto laptop. I asked for no PC laptop use due to sensitivity to un filtered screens and was told that laptop or no assessment. I just found out today that I am going to get another home assessment probably at very short notice and yet again to be done straight onto laptop. Is it different in different areas iron atos/capita thing?

It could be due to different areas, different companies or just an upgrade to their systems.

It seems to me it is better that information is entered directly in tour presence rather than entered from handwritten notes at a later stage when things can be redacted or changed.

It may be down to different systems -or I could have been mistaken!

I do agree that it is better to have information entered directly onto the comp whenever possible.

I agree that it avoids info change and most folk could see exactly what is being typed so less chance of hmm mistakes? later. My problem is can't look at what they are typing so could be saying anything. Also by typing on their laptop they are limited to amount of words which meant they couldn't record all that was discussed which got them annoyed.
Thanks anyway
