Esa and dla was created by brad72
Hia, could someone help me I am currently going through the transfer to esa from sda and income support, I know I can't get income support if I am successful in getting esa but is there no other top ups I would be entitled to as this would be a big drop in money, also whilst waiting for my desicion will I remain on my sda and income support or will it be put in the assessment phase, and finally will I loose my dla if I fail my esa medical, and if I pass will I still get it. Sorry to go on a bit but not to good at explaining things due to my depression. Thanks

Hi
I'm afraid it is difficult to advise you on other benefits without knowing your circumstances in detail, which we do not do on this forum.
You should think about why you get income support, ie kids, partner, etc l'm surprised you get so much income support as SDA is at least the single persons allowance. If its the disability premiums ESA has these on top of the basic rates.
The assessment rate will not apply to you, you will stay on your current benefit until you get your decision.
You could get a benefits calculation from the DWP or try CAB or ring turn2us.
ESA will not affect your DLA.

Thank you for your response, I've looked at why I get income support and it states because I am single and get extra for being disabled and extra for being serverly disabled and age additions. So if I fail my medical and don't appeal and end up on jsa will I have to contact dla. Thanks

You will be put on Contribution Based ESA but should also be assessed for an Income Related ESA top-up which will allow payment of any Premiums that you are eligible for.

Whilst there are circumstances where your DLA can impact on any Income Related payments you are receiving such as IS and ESA(IR) the reverse is not true, so there would be no need for you to contact the DLA unit if you are not successfully transferred to ESA.

Oh OK, thanks for that Gordon. Bit surprised about the esa as not worked for over 20 years due to my condition, I was under the impression that if you didn't pay enough national insurance wich I thought I hadn't cus of not working you would have to claim income related esa. Plus does that mean after a year if Im in the wrap will I loose my esa. Thanks

You are classed, because of your SDA, as meeting the Contribution Conditions for ESA(CB), but this does mean that the EA(CB) would only be payable for a year if you are placed in the WRAG, but you should then be switched to ESA(IR) automatically so should see no interruption in payment.
