I'm more than a bit miffed at having to jump through hoops yet again at 62 when I should be getting my state pension, but for the government changing the age goalposts. Still two years to go.

I have a question: I read somewhere that you could pre-empt Maximus sending your GP an ESA113 by printing one off yourself from the pdf on line and getting your GP to fill it out himself, and then send it in with the completed ESA50. What do the mods think of this suggestion?

The problem with this strategy is that if the ESA113 doesn't come from the DWP or Maximus then then the GP will not be paid for it!

You would be better off speaking to your GP and seeing what support they are willing to provide you with.

Thank you Gordon, you are all so logical! B)

I have another question. I was prepared to receive an ESA50 at any time, so I already have one saved on the interactive pdf. I note, however that it prints in colour, unlike the old one. Is there any reason why it can't be printed in B&W? The colour cartridge is low and it is rather expensive to replace. The additional information sheets are of course in B&W anyway saved on Word.

Hi st,

I can't see any reason why you cannot print it off in Black and White !!

I always print off such documents in B and W to save on Colour Cartridge usage !! :)

I don't know of any reason why you should not print it in black and white, there's no advantage to it being in colour and any copy that the DWP make will be in black and white.

Printing in b&w is usually a printer option, although it may be possible to do it in Reader, when you go to print the ESA50 the dialogue that opens should have a "properties" option, you want to chose print in b&w or print in greyscale, you might want to print one page first just to check it works.

How would you fit in a statement on an ESA 50 to the effect that your mental health would be at risk if you were found not to have a limited capability for work that could not be improved by making reasonable adjustments. There is no descriptor for this. I know that the onus is on you to prove this, so would a doctor or consultants letter suffice, or can you word this somehow in additional information?

Hi Summertrain

In order to prove exceptional circumstances, you have to show that there is 'a risk of harm to claimant or someone else if he were not placed in the support group'.

There is no specific place on the claim form for such information; you add the information in the space for 'other comments' and present detailed information about your condition and supporting evidence wherever possible. Evidence from your GP or Consultant would support your application. If you can manage to keep some sort of detailed diary - ask someone else to observe and write down details for you - give this also, explaining that someone else has been watching over you, etc. Other than that, unless other Mods can offer other suggestions, I would leave it at that.

Good luck.
