PIP RESULT FEEL SICK was created by tigrine
I got my PIP result today and I knew before I opened the envelope that it wasn't going to be good news and it certainly wasn't. I'm sitting here feeling sick and my breathing is horrendous not to say the amount of pain from my rheumatoid arthritis flare up all due to the unacceptable results. I got 0 on everything. I get absolutely nothing.
I followed everything on here and made sure everything was ready to show the person who came to my home for the assessment. Total waste of time. She didn't ask hardly any of the questions mentioned on here and didn't really follow the way things were supposed to have been done. The letter states that I wasn't showing signs of breathlessness , wrong, I was clearly struggling, apparently I can walk 200 metres, wrong, she never had me walk, apparently I can move my arms and body without any trouble, wrong, I showed her just how far I could raise my arm and I also could not touch my toes when asked to bend over and she never asked me to take my fluffy slippers off so she could see I couldn't stand on my tip toes. The letter went on to say that I didn't need help with bathing or dressing, wrong, it was made clear on the form and in the letters from my two Son's and I also told to person who came that I needed help but not with going to the toilet as I wasn't ready to have my lads help me with that. The letter also made out that I could prepare and cook a simple meal, wrong, my youngest son comes on his day off and cooks my meals for the week and all I have to do is take a little parcel out of the freezer and put it in the microwave. He also has me wash the veg as the warm water helps my hands. My youngest comes before and after work to get me sorted and my eldest son comes after work on the Friday and stays the weekend doing the house work. The letter also said I live alone, yes I do but that shouldn't make any difference as I have my son come morning and evening and with me all day on his day off and my other son with me from Friday to Monday morning and friends in and out during the day. I also have a very good neighbour who is there if I need her. No I don't have much at all as far as notes ect from the Doctor, they have let me down way to many times and don't really seem to care. Just takes the pills and get on with it attitude but I did have a list of my meds.
Basically the whole letter was nothing but lies and as far as we are concerned we feel a decision was made without looking at the form or my Sons letters. The whole assessment was a sham. She was watching me like a hawk and I was watching her. I didn't feel comfortable and knew when she left it hadn't gone well and it lasted 45 minutes. She never asked to see my aids I use nor did she ask to see me use my walker.
So, now we will appeal but we can't do that until my Son rings them next week then we see what happens. For me to lose my benefit will be the worse thing to happen.

There'[s no requirement for your son to ring them, but if you feel you want him to then carry on.

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for you to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

You should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report if you have not already done so, I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that you meet the criteria, there are many reasons you may have failed, you need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m, I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.
