Apply for PIP or Not? was created by dropfog
Hi, I have a question regards PIP. I am on DLA indefinite award. Low mobility, middle care.

After a few months wait, I got called for my first ESA interview. Was/am in support group with no f2f before.

The stress and affects on my health have been worse than I'd anticipated. I knew it would affect me, but not to the extent that it has.

I will note here that my ESA interview seemed about 30mins, and mainly asked about my health.
I was in such a state, it all seemed very surreal. The person who took me assures me, it went ok, and the nurse/lady genuinely was nice. I will report my results when I get them. Nurse actually helped me to car as I was so distressed, said don't worry and I would hear in 8weeks.
.

However, This has brought to light that, eventually I will be called to swap to PIP. In my mind although I feel I would get some award maybe, the hurdles and strain on my health far out way the risk of swapping.

However this is where my question and worry has arisen. Say I did get back into an ESA group, wrag or support.... Would NOT applying for PIP when an if I get asked in the future cause me issues down the line regards my ESA awards etc Would it look odd, flag me up? I can just about cope with ESA. PIP seems an added worry, but if it may effect my ESA I'm in catch 22?.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Hi bunnydrop,

It will be entirely up to you whether you go ahead and claim PIP when the time comes. If you decide not to, it will not have any effect on your ESA. In fact, it is unlikely that an ESA assessor would even know whether you are claiming PIP.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Thanks Mrs Hurtyback. I guess its been such a stressful time, I'm over anxious and over thinking it all. I just assumed saying no to PIP, should I not recover from this episode of worry, would trigger the PIP department to notify the ESA.....and then start a review etc. of any claim I had running. Many thanks for replying.

As soon as I hear back re my latest ESA interview/ result I will post. As I stated it was all very surreal to me that day, and nurse was very very kind. So we shall see. Thanks to you all, your kind words and advice have been a lifeline to me an my family. :)
