Dla to pip ow attendance allowance was created by trixie
I turned 65 in May and had an ongoing claim for pip. I previously had dla highest care and mobility. Indefinitely. However My pip was only given mobility standard rate and no care at all. I asked for a mandatory reconsideration and again they have awarded me the same. I have difficulty showering and dressing/undressing and also with my toilet needs. I have fallen out of bed a few times and had black eyes as a result. An I able to claim Attendance Allowance instead. They have awarded me standard mobility until 2021.
I would be pleased for your advice on this. Thanks :(

Hi Trixie and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work #

Yes, you are eligible to claim AA as you are over 65. AA has no mobility component though and I don't know whether you would have to give up your PIP claim completely in order to claim AA. I'm sure Gordon will be able to advise on this issue.

You say you have completed an MR, have you appealed the Decision, as long as it is no more than 13 months since the Decision, you can still make a Late Appeal.

I think as you have an award of PIP you can actually asked to be reassessed for PIP, even though you are now over 65 and if successful can get a care award in addition to your current Mobility award. For completeness, the reverse does not apply (e.g. you cannot receive a new mobility award or increased award after the after you reach 65), so you would need to be sure that your current Mobility award is secure.

As an alternative, you should also be able to claim AA.

Hi sorry I'm not quite sure what you mean... Can I carry on getting standard mobility with pip and also get attendance allowance ? Am I right in thinking that I'm never going to be awarded enhanced rate pip mobility again because I have reached 65?
Story to be a nuisance!

Yes, as long as you continue to meet the criteria for Standard Mobility you will continue to receive your current PIP award, however, even if your Mobility worsens you cannot receive the Enhanced rate for Mobility now that you have turned 65.

With regard your Care needs, I think you have two options'

- You can ask to have your PIP reassessed, but this will be a full review of your claim and will include your Mobility, or

- You can make a claim for AA.
