Hi, we joined this site at 3am. The forms are daunting. Hope someone may have some experience with profound deafness and cochlear implants. My daughter lost all hearing at 18. Until then perfect hearing and studying music. Has been in receipt of DLA since and now has to complete PIP booklet. She cannot wear the CI 24/7. She cannot cope with living alone. she is vunerable even when wearing CI.

We will ask for speech to text for the assessment.

Grateful for any help. They gave only allowed 3 weeks to return forms. Medical evedence we have was for DLA. There is no cure for severe rapidly progressive hearing loss. Will it be alright to supply the old evidence?

My daughter is self employed due to difficulties and discrimination when she tried to get emploment. Access to work even refused to give her a microphone for work.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

I would start by having a look at our PIP Claim guide

Now my daughter has assessment in 2 weeks. Battle to get speech to text. Told DWP, Phoned ATOS 3 times to request they told me they only provide BSL. We phoned again today and said that we would be recording assessment with a dictaphone. They said we would need 2 copies. They then said that if we changed the appointment to the 9th September they would provide STT. This is all after contacting our MP and equality advisory group.

Prior to this they phoned us 2 weeks ago and wanted my daughter to attend the next day Friday or Monday, Tues impossible. Told them my daughter needs STT. They then sent appt for the !st Sept. When we phoned was told they only provide BSL.

What a lot of time wasters do any of them bother to read notes

I believe that the people who make the appointments have no access to the claimants records or PIP2 form!

Hi,
I have profound hearing loss too. Only got 2 points for wearing aids at assessment, upgraded to 4 after I complained, had MR. Didn't know when I filled PIP2 form to ask for Speech to Text and did ask for it through MP but ATOS refused. Then went to Tribunal, two years later, and had lovely lady for Speech to Text and got points for both parts of PIP. Remember that deaf people don't just struggle with communication, you should claim under other questions as well. If you need help, do ask. Also get a copy of the audiogram. The hearing test is a farce, they stand behind you, and speak and you can't hear them, Nothing technical or sophicated !
