DLA-PIP -ESA was created by ploppy
I had my DLA-PIP assessment a few weeks ago, and 2 weeks ago received the brown envelope saying I'd been awarded the enhanced rate of PIP on both components. This is the same as I had when on DLA. I am also in the ESA support group contribution based and I have not had an assessment for around 4 years.
Yesterday I received 2 brown envelopes from DWP. Both have confused me, both regarding ESA.
The first one I read said 'Your claim for ESA, A change in the ESA support allowance rate payable. It then goes on to tell me how much I'll be getting from 06/04/2016 and various reasons why. The amount is no different to what I get now. It tells me how its been worked out etc but at the very end it says 'The amounts on this page apply from 06/04/2016 - 29 November, 2016. What happens on the 29 November? Does this mean I have to go through an ESA assessment in November?
The second envelope I opened says 'Extra money-Severe Disability Premium.
It says I could be getting extra money because of this & that and asks about Carers Allowance. I have a carer who gets paid by the council, direct payments. Is this carers allowance or is carers allowance something else. This is all beyond me.
Thankyou for any help provided.

The date in November is an administrative date connected to the payment of the Christmas Bonus.

Carers Allowance is not the same as any payment that you might receive from your Local Authority and won't effect your eligibility for the Severe Disability Premium. If you live alone or are considered to be living alone and no one receives Carers Allowance for you, then you may be eligible to receive the SD Premium as an additional payment on top of your current ESA.

Hello Gordon,
Thankyou for this info.
I am on my own, I receive £109.30 in Contribution based ESA and have never claimed carers allowance in that case. I always thought because I have a carer paid by the council that it was the same thing.
I shall fill in this form then for the SD Premium and see what happens. If I apply for this it won't reduce the amount I get on PIP will it?
All I get is PIP and ESA.
Also, if I am eligible for the SD Premium would it get backdate do you know.
Thankyou for your help Gordon.

If you are receiving ESA(CB) then you may also need to complete an ESA3 form to check that you are eligible for Income Related ESA as the SDP is only payable if you are.

The SDP will increase your ESA by £61.85 a week.

If you were on the DLA HRC previously then you should have been receiving the SDP then as well, it's potentially back datable to when you started DLA or first received ESA, which ever is the later.

Hello Gordon,
This is getting more and more confusing, sorry for being so dumb. The 'Generated Letter' regarding my ESA says this on how my ESA has been worked out. To me its contradicting itself as to whether I'm contribution based, income based or a bit of both. I was awarded the DLA HRC just over a year ago and now get the enhanced PIP on both components.

My ESA Award
Living Expenses £0.00
Limited Capability for Work Addition
Extra Money because I'm in the support group £36.20
Which Gives a total income-related amount £36.20

INCOME AND BENEFITS
No income will be taken of your ESA
Your income-related amount is £36.20 less £0.00 so you would have been entitled to £36.20.
However because you are entitled to contribution based ESA we will pay you £109.30

Gordon, can you make out from this what I'm in. I would ring them but to scared incase I suddenly receive an 'invitation' for a ESA assessment.
Thankyou

The letter indicates that you are receiving Contribution Based ESA only,

To be entitled to payment of the Premium you need to be eligible to receive Income Related ESA. ESA(IR) is dependant on your household income, your savings and assets, and any hours that your partner works. See

Asset rule for ESA(IR)

24 hour work rule for ESA(IR)

If think that you are eligible for ESA(IR) then you should be receiving the Enhanced Disability Premium for being in the Support Group and if you meet the criteria, the Severe Disability Premium.

Were you transferred to ESA from IB or was it a new claim?
