I have received a letter asking me to attend a review of benefits. I have PIP and ESA. PIP was given til Dec 16 so I know that may be coming up. I receive Contributory ESA. I have liver cirrhosis and diabetes Type 1. Also have a DS1500 from my GP. This is troubling me a great deal as going out and travelling 25 miles for an interview is stressing me now. Appt is 24th Aug. Sress and worry contributes to pain levels and I am also worried I may not be well enough to attend. What should I do.

We've seen a lot of these recently, the first thing I would do is contact the DWP and ask for the meeting to be held at your home due to your conditions, assuming that this will make it easier for you, be aware that the DWP person probably has no knowledge of your conditions or that a DS1500 has been issued.

Wherever it is held you are entitled to have someone with you and I would recommend you do this if only for moral support.

The vast majority of these interviews are nothing more than the DWP rattling the claimants cage and no further action is required.

Thank you

Would it be worth mentioning that I have a DS1500 when I do speak to someone. I shall ask for a home visit.

I forgot to mention also I am in the support group for ESA contributory

Would a GP/consultants letter be advisable to get also.

Hi Glen,

Yes, it is worth telling whoever you speak to that you have a DS1500 - although I'm afraid you might also have to explain what this is!

This is not a full reassessment of your medical eligibility so, in your position, I would not get a letter from GP/consultant unless I could do so without causing myself any added stress or anxiety.

Hi I am still very concerned about my review appointment with Jobcentre plus next week. I am beginning to feel very ill and panicking that my benefits will be stopped. Don't know why but I am that sort of person, think the worst.

Are many people getting these reviews and how are they finding it. The letter says they want to review my benefits and see if I am getting what I should. I am on PIP and Contribution based ESA

Hi Glen,

I have merged your query with the previous one about this review. It helps us mods enormously when everything relating to the same issue is kept in one topic. It also allows other members to see the background to this query.

We get a steady trickle of members who receive these forms, most people report that it was not as bad as they feared.

Members are, of course, welcome to comment from their own experience.

If you have any further questions or comments about this review, please reply to this message and we will do our best to help. You will find it easily in future if you bookmark/favourite it on your web browser now :)
