ESA>>>>>>changes?? was created by littlenell11
Hi,
Really hope someone can help me. I was dx with MS in 2007, I receive ESA (support group) however, I have now developed periperhal problems, which has started me on the dx road again. My consultant tells me that MS doesnt behave like this, so, had more tests done, which has revealed that i have damage to the central nervous system and periphal nervous system damage. SO, I have mri, lip biopsy, lumbar puncture and awaiting a nerve biospy. The MRI has shown fractured in my spine.......osteoporosis and still waiting for the lip biopsy results. So, my question is , do i inform DWP that my initial dx probably has changed or wait until I have a firm dx.? thing is, my symptoms havent not change, still in pain and difficulty, but, i am so stressed that if i dont inform them now, I will be heavily penalised for not informing of a change.................please help.

Hi and Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explain where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

ESA, like DLA and PIP, is awarded because of your limitations rather than your diagnoses. If your limitations have not changed then I see no reason for you to notify DWP.

Quick update on my last post re: ESA changes. I have received a letter regarding DLA to PIP today. It states if i want to claim PIP I have to contact them before November 11th, I have a couple of questions, hope you can help. Will I be ringing to ask for the application form or will it be an interview? The other question i have is, should I tell them about the change in my dx during this phone call? or as advised earlier I dont need to as my symptoms havent changed  ......really would appreciate help.

Kindest regards
claire

Hi vinnyax,

The initial phone call just starts the claim process. You will be asked what is wrong but they do not need any degree of detail.

The questions you will be asked are explained in the PIP guide

PIP help for claimants

It might be worth starting a new topic if you will have more questions about your ESA, this will keep things clear in our minds when we are giving information!
