I was awarded standard on both after getting nothing after i rang them up telling them the pip assessment was completely inaccurate, however I want to appeal this as the information they used was old and from awhile back that they already had on records about my condition

since that i now have updated letters from my doctor and mental health team so should i send this to pip saying the information they used was outdated and i now have up to date information or go to an appeal ?

what I would like to know is what is the difference with an appeal and me writing back to pip with more information from my doctor showing them my condition is worse than what they wrote of in the letter they sent me?

thanks

Your post suggests that the DWP have carried out a Mandatory Reconsideration of the original Decision, if this is the case then your writing to them again is unlikely to have any effect as they have no further responsibility to re-visit the Decision at this time.

If you appeal then an independent panel will look at your claim from scratch, they will treat all of the evidence as equal and you have a further opportunity to provide further explanation of your problems and new evidence if you have it.

Whilst statistics mean little for the individual claim, the success rate at appeal is more than 60%.

yes gordon it was a mandatory reconsideration however they used old information to base their decision on and it states in the letter they sent if your condition changes to let them know

so i was going to say my condition has changed and forward them the new letters i have from my docs and mental health or will this make no difference ?

Neither the DWP nor a Tribunal panel can take account of any changes in your conditions since the Decision was made, if you think that these changes would make the difference in an award then you can report a Change of Circumstances but be aware that this will result in a full reassessment of your claim, new PIP2 and likely a face to face assessment.

Hi Joe,

We cannot advise whether or not you should go to appeal - apart from anything else, we do not know enough about your situation (and nor should we on a public forum).

It is possible to request a hearing on paper but you should be aware that, statistically, this is much less likely to be successful than if you appear in person.

On the other hand, a paper hearing could work in your favour if you hope to score points on the grounds of being unable to leave your home or make social contact with people you don't know.
